Summer is that one season we all try to hold on to for as long as possible. For me, it brings a spirit of freedom that’s left over from my childhood. Maintaining that feeling of an endless summer is easier than you think, so today I’m giving you some examples of how I do it.
1. Laugh and sing with friends. My closest friends are never far away – especially in summer. All those extra hours of daylight mean more time for running around like fools and laughing until we cry. Even after the sun goes down and the days get shorter, the guitar comes our and the laughter continues into the night.
2. Dress down. Board shorts and flip-flops – summer style at its best. Even when it gets a little cooler in the evening, slip on the flip-flops to get that relaxed feeling of not having to worry about changing clothes the rest of the day.
3. Create a perfect playlist. Forget the hottest hits on the radio – my summer playlist is all about the songs of summers gone by. It’s a tossed salad of Ben Harper, Bob Marley, The Cars and some classic Van Halen. But really, anytime of the year is right for kicking back with a speaker and tunes.
4. Tantalize the tastebuds. The savories that quench my thirst are mason jars of sweet tea with a sprig of mint. For a snack, the juicy decadence of chilled watermelon sliced thick is second only to the explosive thrill of frozen grapes.
5. Punch up the colors. Even in the dead of winter, you’ll find summer colors around my house. It could be a hibiscus plant I tend to all season or some orange and red pillows that evoke that carefree spirit of summer. Whatever you do, make it colorful and fill your home with it.
6. Seek out water. Everyday it can be a party in the summer if there’s a body of water nearby. There really is nothing like the glimmer of water at the golden hour on a sunset boat ride with friends. To unwind, an early-morning walk around a lake does the trick for me.

I love walking / driving tours around the island with the dogs early in the morning when the island is still sleeping.
In the afternoon I go down to the beach to enjoy the sun, the heat and the sea and in the evening, I go to the harbor and enjoy the local orchestra, tourists, community singing and the whole atmosphere down there.
At the same time, there is just nothing better than light salads mixed with assorted fresh fruits and freshly milked milk from grazing cows.
Here a little mood exactly as I love the most.
Hi This Beautiful xoxoxo
Thank you Linda. I think these moments can make the perfect mood at any time.
Very Nice Pic, Gitte. I love it , thanks to share it! I love Pictures that bring A little peace to the soul, when life is so full of trials. What A great moment to capture!
Thanx Prism Heart. These moments just make my day / night.
Most people here on this island is old people the average age is 62 so i am pretty lonely, but the dogs and these moments just outweigh any disadvantages, I will try to take i pict. of the local band next time they performe on the harbor, and share it in here with you. I dont think life have to be a party all time, to make a season longer can allso be to find pease in your heart and soul.
Perfect photo Gitte!!
Thank you Marina.
Incredible shot! Thanx for sharing.
your welcome Ty. It is easy to take these kind of pict. here on this island.
I love everything what you named in the point 6, if I have the chance, I do some rafting or dive, visit a new place, and see the sunrise over the sea. Bob Marley always makes me think in the summer and my favorite beach. In the city: grill outdoors with friends, music and games, and I take with me a photo of the beach in the cell pone so don´t miss it so much and relax a bit the mind.
If you had a magic wand, would stop time just to sauor the months’ beautiful we are on the calendar from June to August!! Summer, hot sun and’ … it’s nice to dream!!
Ty compliments!!
wait. are you saying there is a season other than summer? i don’t understand. . .i live in CA. i grew up in los angeles and went to the beach all year long. i now live in central CA and, let me tell you, the season-of-which-i-shall-not-name actually gets pretty cold. BUT, i have fairly easy access to the beach and i can hit it any time of year. so when i’m freezing my rear off over here in january, i can head over to the coast and be happy. and i love being able to go when the crowds aren’t there. as for music, it’s U2 and Switchfoot sprinkled with Sting, Evanescence, and Toad the Wet Sprocket and some others. . .but here again, it’s all year long. and. . .i pull out the guitar all year long too. . .and i never dress up. does this mean i push summer to it’s limits? i think i’m just in denial that there is anything else.
oops. i almost forgot about Jack Johnson. big mistake. sorry, Jack.
