Design Notes: Using Candles to Set The Mood
Love is in the air this week. And even though I can’t offer any expert relationship or dating advice, I still wanted to spread the love. So today I’m going to set the mood… around your home with candles!
Candles are a great way to bring a touch of relaxation and ambiance to your rooms. But if they smell insanely good, they also keep your nose happy too! So whether you need a quick romantic fix before Friday or just want to light a fire in your home decor, keep reading for some interesting ways to use candles.
Let’s start where the magic happens… for me, that’s the kitchen. Small candles mixed into centerpieces are inexpensive and great for adding elegance to your table. Nobody can deny that a romantic dinner for two requires at least one candle, right?
If you have a fireplace in your living area or bedroom, add some extra heat a mix of different sized candles. They’re easier to clean than logs and give the room a subtle focal point.
Candle light fixtures and candelabra holders are a nice alternative to normal lighting. If you have some empty space on your walls or want to accentuate light, try mounting sconces.
Small and medium candles bring the perfect twinkle to the tub.
I should add to use caution when you’re decorating with candles. It might seem obvious, but having candles too close to fabrics, curtains, etc. can be seriously dangerous. And never leave a candle burning unattended!
Last but not least, I LOVE keeping a clean conscious when possible, so try to pick up beeswax or soy candles instead of paraffin. You can also try flameless options that use battery-operated LEDs. All are eco-friendly and burn clean.
